Galloping Gobbler 2007
11/28/2007
After months of running on and off I was finally convinced that I was in shape enough to run 4 miles in the annual Galloping Gobbler event on Thanksgiving morning.  Mild oversight, the night before the race I found myself scrambling to get cold weather gear to run in.  Thanks to Ramon for making that happen.

So picture, if you will, thirty four degrees.  Cloudy.  A slight fifteen mile per hour wind bringing the wind chill down into the twenties.  There I stand, thirty two years old, Thanksgiving morning in  thermal  tights, shorts, thermal top, and a Fred Toenges running shirt, thinking to myself, “What have I gotten myself into?”  I wasn't concerned about if I could make the four miles.  I could.  I wasn't concerned about the other 500 people around me.  I was more concerned about the uncontrolled shivering that had over taken my body.  What is going on here?  Why have 500 people put themselves in this position?

Off we went.  Thirty some minutes later I was done.  I had battled a slight injury and finished.  Granted I was beaten by 340 other people.  However,  I finished.  I had never run a race before.  I will run again.

I want to thank Peter.  He was nice enough to finish the race and come back for me.  He then made me understand why I finished 341st.  He ran another 17 miles.  Show off.

If you would like to run with Fred Toenges Shoes, let us know.  We will be starting a running club on Saturday mornings.  Distance will vary depending on the group.  For more information drop an email to pryan@toengesshoes.com or jwhite@toengesshoes.com.
