Accepted as an Olympic Pedorthic Specialist

Fred Toenges received notification last February that he had been
accepted to work as a pedorthic specialist at the Summer Olympics in
Athens, Greece. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for the Fort Wayne
native and owner of Fred Toenges Shoes. He was one of only a handful
who treated athletes at the games. He was able to treat athletes and
volunteers from 15 other countries. His trip included many long hours
of traveling and security proceedings, but overall the trip was a
highlight of his career. He worked alongside specialists from other
countries, and was amazed at the conditions that some of the athletes
trained and competed with that caused great pain. Many of them were
wearing shoes that were too short, but their dedication did not stop
with painful conditions or injuries. Despite the exhausting work, Fred
says he would do it all over again, “it was a wonderful and exciting
experience.”
